Knee Arthroscopy
Minimally invasive keyhole diagnosis and treatment for knee disorders.
Procedure Overview
Knee Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive keyhole procedure used to diagnose and treat internal joint injuries. By inserting a high-definition camera (arthroscope) through micro-incisions, Dr. Vikram Byre can perform precise repairs to cartilage and ligaments with minimal tissue disruption.
Surgical Approach & Technique
Through two or three tiny keyhole incisions, sterile fluid is introduced to inflate the joint. The surgeon inserts the thin arthroscope camera to visualize the joint structures, and specialized micro-instruments are used to trim, repair, or clean the damaged areas.
Procedure Highlights
- Outpatient keyhole access
- HD camera visualisation
- Fast ligament / cartilage trims
Who May Be a Candidate?
- ✓ Patients with torn meniscus cartilage requiring repair or trimming.
- ✓ Individuals with loose bone or cartilage fragments causing joint locking.
- ✓ Patients with inflamed synovial tissue or localized cartilage damage.
Common Symptoms & Conditions
- ▪ Pain along the joint line that worsens with twisting or pivoting.
- ▪ Knee catching, locking, or inability to fully straighten the joint.
- ▪ Persistent swelling that doesn't improve with rest or anti-inflammatory drugs.
Postoperative Recovery Pathway
Because the incisions are tiny and muscles are not cut, discomfort is minimal. Most procedures are performed on an outpatient basis (same-day discharge). Patients can walk with minimal support and resume light activities within 1 to 2 weeks.
